The South Czech Philharmonic presented Vrstvení (Layering), a new piece by composer and top-class cymbalist Daniel Skála (*1981). It was performed on 21 and 22 February in the church of Saint Anna, České Budějovice, under the direction of Marek Prášil.

"The title of the piece refers to the main principle of composition I used here," Skála said. "Instead of melodies and harmonies, there are only layers and consonances, lines and clusters, movement and rest. The work is as simple as I managed to free myself of opulence, my own habitual practices and the attempt to communicate something..." The programme also included Concerto for Cello and Orchestra D minor by Édouard Lalo (performed by Jiří Bárta), Guillaume Lekeu's Adagio for Strings and Bohuslav Martinů's Symfonietta La Jolla.
